Before you even think of a name for your business - know who your ideal client is.

OK you have decided to go for it, you are going to be an entrepreneur. That is a big deal! Now you have to take that dream and turn it into a reality and hope to God that is works! I know there are a LOT of things you need to do before you are ready to launch your business, I am certainly not a business expert, so I can’t speak to everything you need to do when starting out. What I am is a marketing expert - and I want to share with you how to make sure you are setting your business up for success from a marketing perspective.

Before you even think of a NAME for your business - know WHO your ideal client is.

BEFORE you start the marketing process for your business, take some time to think about who you are wanting to serve, what problems are you solving for them, what is going to set you apart from other businesses that do what you do?

From this point on EVERYTHING you are going to be creating is going to be something that will appeal to THEM. This is a tough one to swallow at times, your business isn’t about you - it is about who you want to sell to.

Let’s dive in a bit into who your ideal client could be, and I want to make this very clear - your ideal client is NOT everyone. It just isn’t. So now that we have gotten that out of the way lets find out who your ideal client is, I have finally put together a form for my clients to use when we are working through this together and thought it would be a good thing to share with you as well, feel free to fill the form out and I’ll email you back with your answers if you like - we can even schedule a phone call to talk more about this but there is no pressure - you may not be my ideal client (haha!).

Pretty detailed hey? I remember going through this with one of my clients Lucicovi Creative, she did by far the best I have ever seen when it came to coming up with her ideal client, her name is Sophie, she even painted a picture of her - Sophie is a really cool girl!

What happens next?

Once you have your ideal client figured out then you are able to have a better idea of what direction you need to take with your other stuff. When you have all of the financials in place, and your business is starting to fall together then you will want to dive into what your brand is going to look like.

When you are putting together a brand for your business you want to think about - what is your ideal client going to be drawn to?

Branding considerations:

  • Colour palate

  • Font selection

  • Imagery

  • Mood/Voice of your brand

  • Logo

  • Sub Logo

  • Branding elements

  • Social profiles

  • Hashtags

Once you have a solid ideal client, and a solid brand, then you can move onto the business cards, marketing materials, website, social media posting, email marketing campaigns, promotions and overall marketing strategy.
